What you need for an annuity quote

A few details let us compare the right products:

  • Your age (and your spouse’s, if the annuity will be joint)
  • Your state of residence
  • How much you plan to put in
  • Where the money is coming from: savings or other non-qualified money, an IRA or 401(k), or an existing annuity
  • Your main goal: protecting principal, growth, or income now or later
  • When you expect to need income or access to the money
  • Recent statements for any annuity or account being moved

Don’t have everything? Start with what you have and we will help with the rest.

Existing money

Moving existing money into an annuity

There are two different ways to move money you already have, depending on whether it sits inside a retirement account.

Section 1035 exchange

For non-qualified money (outside retirement accounts). Section 1035 of the tax code lets you exchange an existing non-qualified annuity, or a life insurance policy, for a new annuity without paying tax on the gain at the time of the exchange. It is not used for IRA money. Surrender charges on the old contract can still apply, so we compare surrender values before recommending a move.

IRA transfer or rollover

For qualified money (an IRA or employer retirement plan), which moves into an annuity held inside an IRA. A direct trustee-to-trustee transfer between IRAs is not limited. A rollover where you receive the money yourself is limited to one IRA-to-IRA rollover in any 12-month period, across all your IRAs. Ask us which method fits your accounts.

    FAQ

    Annuity quote questions

How do I get an annuity quote?

Individuals can use the Talk to Tim form on this page or call 303-309-3471. Advisors can submit the online quote request or download the PDF. We compare annuities from the insurance companies that fit the goal and the type of money being used.

What information do I need for an annuity quote?

Your age (and your spouse’s for a joint annuity), state, the amount you plan to put in, where the money is coming from, your main goal and when you expect to need income. Statements for any account being moved help us compare options. If you don’t have everything, start with what you have.

Is an annuity quote the same as a guaranteed rate?

No. Rates, caps and participation rates are set by each insurance company and can change. The terms that apply depend on the carrier, the product and the timing of the application, so a quote is a snapshot rather than a promise.

Can I move an existing annuity or IRA into a new annuity?

Often, yes. A non-qualified annuity or a life insurance policy can usually be moved into a new annuity through a Section 1035 exchange. IRA or retirement plan money moves by a trustee-to-trustee transfer or a rollover. Surrender charges and tax rules can apply, so we compare the options before recommending a move.

Can I compare annuities from more than one company?

Yes. SRS is an independent agency, so we compare annuities from multiple insurance companies instead of offering just one.

Guarantees are backed by the financial strength and claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. Annuities are long-term contracts; surrender charges may apply to early withdrawals. This page is general information, not tax or legal advice.
